First of all, there’s Playa de la Americas (America’s beach) and Los Cristianos which are located on the south-west cost of the island. Over the last 30 years Playa de la Americas has become one of Europe’s liveliest and largest holiday resorts and is well worth a visit or even staying there. If you are looking for a beach oriented holiday it’s worth going there as it has a lot of attractions and activities as well as a very wide choice of lovely restaurants and bars. Los Cristianos is for holiday makers who have a quieter destination in mind. Great for young families, it still has things to do but on less of a large scale, so it’s not so loud and crazy.
The “las Canadas del Tiede” – Tiede National Park is in a volcanic mountain and well worth visiting when you go to Tenerife. It is the highest peak in Spain and once at the summit you can see breathtaking and spectacular landscapes. A cable car transports many visitors up to the summit but some choose to hike to the top as the route to experience the natural fauna and fauna; which includes some rare sights such as the violet Tiede and lots of different varieties of birds and lizards. A protected area since 1954 this is definitely a place worth visiting when you go to Tenerife.
In addition, on the east cost of Tenerife, south of Santa Cruz are six step pyramids that are so mysterious as their origin is still baffling archaeologists today. These pyramids are now enclosed in the Ethnographic Park. The site contains a museum full of rich history, coffee and souvenir shops and you absolutely must see the secret garden, which specialises in toxic and poisonous plants. Archaeologists originally believed that the pyramids were the remainder of early Spanish settlers and their rubble and stone terraces left behind, but Thor Heyerdahl thought differently and you can see all about this when you visit this amazing attraction in Tenerife by car.
Masca is a fantastic place to visit for amazing, breath-taking scenery. Visiting the picturesque village of Masca you’ll find scenery that is up there with the best in the world. The village itself is set in the Teno Mountains and clings to the slopes of a deep green ravine by a quite narrow road, not for the faint hearted it has a few hairpin bends but you’ll find it well worth the drive. Until quiet recently this region was inaccessible via road, and one could only reach it by boat. But now that it has opened up, it is well worth the trip. You can take a pretty stunning, but difficult walk down to the beach from Masca and see many variations of bird life, flora and fauna on the way down.
